Due to some technical issues, there has been a delay in posts getting out to our dutiful readers. The Nerd Chiropractor apologizes for any delays.
But with out further ado….let’s move on to today’s “Tip of the Week” Thursday!
Today I wanted to talk about movement. At the beginning of this week, we posted on our social media that our focus would be slightly shifting from talking “at our readers” to opening the discussion “with our readers.”
I think one of the things often overlooked by Chiropractors is “the journey”. Too much emphasis is put on destinations: already eating healthy, already exercising, not having a herniated disc or pre-existing low back pain, etc.
But what happens when the doctor is as much the student as the patient? Well, we are going to find out together. We are going to find out why moving and shaking is important for all facets of health, not just physical, and why it’s important to maintaining a healthy spine! Most importantly, our goal is going to be learning to heal and learning about health through PLAY!

Remember when you were a kid on the playground? The mulch was lava, the only way to escape was aboard the USS Enterprise (okay it was the combo slide with platforms, but you get the idea).
When we were playing, we engaged our bodies, our minds and our imagination. Creativity and play go hand in hand. And that’s the tip today….or maybe your challenge, should you choose to accept it, Mr. Hunt.

Today at Nerd Chiro, we imagined we were explorers. While on our daily dog walk, we had to find something beautiful or interesting that we hadn’t noticed before. Here’s what we saw:

So your challenge is to channel your inner child. Go out and take a walk, use your imagination, pretend the floor is lava. Whatever your inner kid wants. Comment and share what you did!
And just to have a scientific piece, here’s a link to an article from the Mayo Clinic that discusses just how important movement is! (And if you read our Sitting article, it should look like very similar information).
Remember, movement is key to helping prevent chronic illnesses: diabetes, cardiovascular disease, headaches, and more! It helps to improve blood flow, stimulate the mind, and give your body that sense of well-being! Our bodies were made to move!
How are you moving today?
Live Long and Prosper,
The Nerd Chiropractor
