Continuing from last week’s talk, we’re going to address: TOXINS!
When people hear the word “toxin”, I’m sure that conjures up a lot of ominous thoughts about poison or illness:

but it can be anything really that isn’t intended to be consumed or something that taxes our body to digest (think: alcohol, food allergies, etc).

So what does toxins have to do with chiropractic?
Well, the original theory was that what we consumed caused subluxations in our body (or nerve interference), and while there may be some validity to that, I think it benefits the reader to look at it from inside out and from above down.
If we have interrupted nervous system interaction, our body and brain don’t communicate properly. Why is this bad? When this happens, our body can slow down its processing of toxins, it can cause us to have reactions to food that is otherwise harmless, or (maybe) it can cause us to have a horrible hangover after just a “couple” glasses of wine.

While we don’t recommend drinking more for a hangover, maybe you can do these things to make sure your nervous system is regularly able to handle any toxins that you may encounter:
- Get Adjusted! By being adjusted regularly, your body is able to adapt to any changes in it’s internal environment.
- Get tested! Food allergy testing can be done by any Wellness Way Doctor. My friend and colleague Dr. Matthew Honchel can be reached at danville@thewellnessway.com. It’s important to know what foods your body can and can’t handle to make sure your body is working optimally.
- Moderate consumption of alcohol. Here’s a great FAQ section from the Center for Disease Control on alcohol consumption recommendations and any questions you may have on moderation: CDC Guidelines.
