Wellness Wednesday is a new series where once a week we will discuss exciting topics about nutrition, health and more! Go to our introduction post for more information 🙂
So instead of covering a specific topic today, I thought I would take this opportunity to share the motivation behind this day.
While I was in school, I learned so much information about nutrition and health. What is crazier to me is that this information changes daily. We learn new information about health science, new studies are published, etc. So how does one navigate this field of information, arming yourself with the knowledge you need to live healthy and well?
Well, for starters, let’s test what you know right now. Take this quiz located at Webmd: Nutrition IQ Quiz and see where your knowledge lands. While some of these answers require a bit more complex understanding of anatomy and physiology, ( and we will tackle those topics) this hopefully helps open you up to the idea that there is more to always learn about nutrition.
Just like any good gamer knows, it takes time, patience and understanding to play a game. You have to learn how to move the joy stick to walk and look at the same time, you have to learn which button means shoot and which means duck (so you don’t get shot at). This takes time, repetition, and practice. Learning about your wellness requires the same skills, and just like you learned to finally get your first kill in Call of Duty multiplayer, you can learn to kill it with your health as well.
Okay, a cheesy example, but its true! Today, its all about awareness. This week, try and keep a food journal. If you want examples, studies, or more information, check out the Harvard Health page. It can be as simple as tracking it on a note app in your phone, or through another food journal app like MyFitnessPal.
Whatever you choose, remember, every time you track what you eat, that’s another victory for the Star Trek Federation, the Jedi, and your health!
Until next time, Live Long and Prosper,
